Yes, I'm an anime fan. That said, I hate most anime. So when I say OMG this anime was teh awesome, I mean it!
Recently I caught up with an amazing series,
Seirei No Moribito (Guardian of the Sacred Spirit), which was just wonderful, first in its pacing and plot , and second in the colorful artistry and storytelling that sets this apart from the juvenile "boobs and guns" ethos of some animes.
Add to that a soundtrack that engages and enhances the story and art, and well! You've got something anyone would be proud of.
It's a sword-and-sorcery kind of story, told in a version of ancient Japan, but more to the point, features some amazing characters and a plot that is LOST-like in keeping you engaged. I like the fact that Balsa, a woman who is a bodyguard/warrior, is not freakin' 15 years old (she's 30 in the show) and I also like that her charge, Prince Chagum, is not just an annoying child you wanna slap - he's smart, and upon becoming aware of a world outside the Imperial Court, embraces it and becomes a real person, not just a cartoon character.
And, I always like a good quest story. From LOTR to Star Wars to whatever, the heroic journey is always a winner. Go get this when it's on DVD in the English world and trust me you'll love it.
